What is a carbonization furnace

A carbonization furnace is an environmentally friendly equipment used to convert organic matter into charcoal. It adopts advanced material carbonization technology to recycle and purify combustible gases such as carbon monoxide and methane generated during the carbonization process, achieving energy recycling. It not only solves the pollution problem of thick smoke generated in traditional carbonization processes to the environment, but also meets the thermal energy requirements of equipment such as charcoal machines.

Working principle of Carbonization furnace

  • Heating: The organic matter in the Carbonization furnace is first heated to a certain temperature. The heating method can be the heat generated by burning the furnace, or provided through other methods such as electric heating.
  • Drying: As the temperature increases, the moisture in organic matter gradually evaporates, reducing its moisture content. This process is usually carried out at relatively low temperatures to prevent the combustion or thermal decomposition of organic matter.
  • Pyrolysis: When the moisture in organic matter decreases, it enters the pyrolysis stage. Under high temperature conditions, organic matter further decomposes, producing gas and liquid products, as well as solid charcoal. The temperature and time during the pyrolysis process will be adjusted according to different organic substances and the required carbon quality.
  • Cooling: After pyrolysis, the gas and liquid products produced in the carbonization furnace need to be cooled to convert them into solid products. The cooling method can be natural cooling or rapid cooling by introducing a cooler.

Composition of carbonization furnace

A carbonization furnace usually consists of a main furnace body, a heating system, a flue gas purification device, a cooling system, and other parts. Among them, the horizontal drum carbonization furnace is a common type, which uses indirect heating method to carry and transfer materials through the drum, ensuring that the materials are uniformly heated during the carbonization process. Rollers are usually made of high-temperature resistant materials, which have good wear resistance and thermal conductivity.
